Conservation Framing and Mounting

Browns Gallery initially started life as a framing workshop catering to the needs of local artists and the public alike. 27 years on, we make frames for some of Scotland’s leading artists many of whom have come together over the years to exhibit in the gallery.

Restoration

A comprehensive service in restoration is available, consultation is free of charge.

We offer a wide range of framing solutions using highest quality materials available. Using archival materials and techniques to make bespoke picture frames that best compliment, preserve and protect the artwork. All frames are made by hand in our workshops and we are happy to advise on the best solution that suits the artwork or the customers requirements.

Contemporary Picture Frames

Naturals woods stained, painted, finished to provide simple elegant frames for traditional or contemporary works.

Gilding & Painted Finishes

Water gilding is available. Traditional technique of applying gold/ silver to a prepared gesso surface. The leaf can be burnished to a highly polished finish or distressed or toned to suit. We concentrate on water based finishes building up layers of colour that can be sanded, polished to arrive at tones that compliment and match those in the artwork.

Mounting & Glazing

The mount is one of the most important considerations when presenting and protecting any artwork. We use museum quality boards and practice. We offer a range of glazing products designed to protect artwork from the damaging effects of light pollution. Framing can be as simple or as elaborate as required, we offer a full range of options to suite the work being framed.
