Stephen Barclay first came to prominence in the early 1980’s as one of the internationally acclaimed ‘New Glasgow Boys’ who emerged from Glasgow School of Art. His paintings have been exhibited worldwide and are held in major public and private collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

The cycle of life is an ever present theme in Stephen’s work. Having a studio in the Angus countryside he is drawn to its rich pastoral landscape and historical sites. His mysterious, brooding paintings, often featuring lonely figures or relics of past conflict are both poignant and thought provoking.
