Alan Watson

Overview
“When I was a student, I imagined that if I were to work, with honesty and determination, then as I grew older, and gathered knowledge, all my questions would have answers. It seems to me now, that more knowledge only creates more puzzles.”

Alan S Watson was born in the East End of Glasgow 1947, educated in Fife, and studied sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 1972. In 1976 he took up an itinerant teaching post in Orkney, flying out to teach in the schools of the northern isles. He retired as Head of Art and Design in Kirkwall Grammar School in 2012.

His work, produced over the last fifty years, is held in private collections in many parts of the world. Charcoal and Acrylic are used to explore the movement of light, and it’s association with water, land, and air.
