Overview
Born in 1974 and raised in Northern Scotland, Erlend Tait received a BA Drawing and Painting from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. Following his graduation, Tait spent nine years in Edinburgh, working in one of Scotland’s leading stained glass studios. Tait studied ancient forms of painting and staining glass, contributing to many prestigious restoration and design projects. Tait now exhibits extensively nationally and internationally. His work is held in collections around the World.
From an early age, Tait has been fascinated by the mythology and folklore of the Highlands and Islands. Now a resident of the Highlands, Tait lives and works on the Black Isle with his wife, Pamela Tait. The couple are known to produce collaborative works.
Much of Highland Folklore relates to anthropomorphic deities within the environment. As a result, much of Tait's work combines portraiture with pattern and symbolism. The symbols are inspired by surroundings and obsessions and allude to themes of ideology and transcendence.
